ESTABLISHMENT HISTORY OF B. P. M. +2 H/S JSR

Baljorji Padshah Memorial (B.P.M.) +2 H/S is situated in the heart of the city of Jamshedpur also known as Steel City. Also known as Tatanagar, Jamshedpur is the largest and most popular city in Jharkhand, having the credential of being the first planned industrial city in India. It ranked as the cleanest city of India in 2019. It was founded by Jamshetji Tata, the founder of Tata groups in the 1900s and was named after him.

As the name indicates, the school was first established by a Parsi priest Shri Baljorji Padshah to cater to educational needs of the children of the employees and laborers  working in Tata Steel company and other industrial units. This was done in 1965 under the aegis of Bihar Pareeksha Samiti. The school teemed with children studying in classes from 1-10. The current adult population residing in Burma Mines area had been once a student of B.P.M. school. Now many of them have their children studying here.

On 02-10-1980 the government took over the school with Mr. Motilal Singh as the first principal. In 1985, the school added +2 in its classes, from matriculation the school reached intermediate section. The school started offering Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational streams in the curriculum, under the Jharkhand Academic Council state board. However, vocational training in mining & Geology, Computer Science began in the Year 1993. In the past few year, in 2016, two new trades ‘Tourism & Hospitality’ and ‘Healthcare’ have been added.

The school has a massive playground measuring 2.5 acre within the 4 acre premises. Over the years many trees have been planted within the school’s premises. Apart from serving the school students, the school’s ground has been historically used by the local population for walking and sports activities like cricket and football tournaments. Young aspiring candidates practicing here get successfully selected for various police and military cadres.

UPG Govt. +2S Baljorji Padshah Memorial Burmamines is the leader school among the three schools of Excellence in the district of East Singhbhum. In the centre state of Jharkhand 80 schools have been chosen in the first phase to make the transition from Hindi medium to English medium; and from state Board to CBSE Board. Our school is the frontrunner in receiving affiliation from the CBSE Board in East Singhbhum. It is a matter of pride that having fulfilled the required criteria and receiving the affiliation to the CBSE Board, our school will begin enrolling students from the new session beginning from 2023.

The campus has two newly constructed buildings, out of which one is the administrative block and the other is for academic purpose. The building for academics has 20 rooms in total whereby all of them will function as smart classrooms. The administrative block consists of Principal’s room, staff room for teachers, a multipurpose hall and all the laboratories, namely Biology lab, Chemistry lab, Physics lab, ICT lab. All the laboratories shall be equipped with the assistance of Professors from BIT, Sindri. It also houses a library whose management will be done digitally. The entire school campus shall be monitored by 360 degree CCTV cameras, which would have a direct connection to the state headquarters.

  • In order to conduct student related activities smoothly, the students have been divided into four houses- Birsa Munda (BM), Nilamber Pitambar (NP), Sidhu Khanhu (SK) & Thakur Vishwaanath Sahdev (TVS). The teachers have been assigned the duty of house masters. Each house has a head student.

  • Students’ Parliament has been appointed through elections. The student related activities are conducted under this parliament creating a healthy democratic environment, with teachers acting as guides / facilitators.

  • Different clubs have been formed, the responsibility of running them is vested with assigned teachers.

  • Electoral Literacy club takes the charge of related activities through rallies, street plays, door to door visits.

  • Legal Literacy club takes care of educating the students about the Rights of Children, saying NO to child marriage, POCSO Act of 2012, through school assembly activities, rallies, street plays and door to door visits for community engagement.

  • The Udaan Club spreads awareness through discussions about the problems and solutions of adolescent period.

  • The ECO-club takes care of planting caring for plants. They ensure clean & green environment in the campus.

  • Through Jal Shakti Sena water conservation is ensured. They hold various competitions and awareness programmes for the students and neighborhood community.

  • Road Safety Club takes on the role of a sentinel among students and neighboring areas, taking out rallies and stressing on habits to cultivate a child safe environment on roads.

  • The Sports Club takes charge of intra and inter school sports activities.

  • The Bureau of Standards Club members are trained to understand the standards or norms set by the Bureau for different consumer articles and the pitfalls when these are ignored.

  • Tobacco Prohibition Club takes the onus of spreading the message of prohibiting tobacco & its related products through poster making, essay writing & slogan competitions.

  • Along with academics and related activities, many other activities as mentioned above form a part of the school curriculum. Designated teachers have been given the charge of their smooth functioning.

  • Another programme Hursh Johar under the aegies of Sampoorna is also being conducted in school to create a joyful environment in school.

It is matter of honor for our school to be chosen by the state within the 80 schools of Excellence. This was made possible only through the good enrollment numbers and success rate of students. This honor motivates us to stride ahead with greater vigor and dedication.
